When it comes to encountering things that are frustrating, few things are quite as annoying as being locked out of your own home. Luckily, if you are ever locked out of your own home, there are many ways that you can get back inside. Some of them are a bit obvious, while others are a bit more obscure. Throughout the course of this brief article, you will learn about 4 ways to get into your home when you're locked out.
Call a Locksmith
A locksmith, such as those at Top Security Locksmiths, can easily allow you back into your home for a minimal charge. There are several ways that locksmiths can have access to your home. Many locksmiths have furnished master keys for themselves, which allow them to unlock any door with a standard lock. The locksmith may also use special tools to pick the locks. But be aware that the locksmith might damage your door in the process. If your lock is particularly difficult, the locksmith might have to use a drill to dissemble the lock. Depending on the distance that the locksmith will have to travel and the complexity of the lock that they're dealing with, a locksmith's price can vary.
Screwdriver In The Window
This is perhaps the second most common way that people attempt to get into their house after being locked out. If you don't have a screwdriver on hand, you should see if you can borrow one from your neighbor. Jimmy the screwdriver into the bottom of the window pane. Move it up and down and waggle the screwdriver from side to side. This will loosen up the window. Eventually, the window should come up. From here, take out the screen if your window has one. Carefully crawl through and make sure not to damage your screen, which is oftentimes quite sensitive. Voila! You're back inside.
First, make sure that the door you're trying to open is locked exclusively with a spring lock. This method will not work on doors that are locked with a deadbolt. A spring lock is the type of lock that consists of part of the doorknob. If you can, make sure that you use a plastic card that you do not often use or one that can be easily replaced, as the fact of the matter is, your card can easily be damaged during this method. Place the card vertically in between the lock and the door, then begin to jimmy the card. Make sure that it moves back and forth and up and down. Eventually, this will cause the lock to loosen and unlock itself.
This method is quite easy, but requires a bit of foresight and is considered a preventative method of sorts. All you have to do with this method is hide a key for yourself. There are a number of places where you can easily hide a key in order to easily get into your house. The most common areas where people tend to hide keys are under doormats or above their door frame outside.
Keep in mind that this can be a bit of a risky proposition due to the fact that many people who break and enter houses in order to rob them blind are also very well aware of this method. It is best to hide a key somewhere that is a bit more obscure or leave the key with a trusted neighbor so you can take advantage of that situation if you ever find yourself locked out of your own home.
